The judiciary complex in the news
On 25 May 2019 the Ogun State Judiciary Complex was commissioned, and the day was reported by Channels Television and by The Guardian. The building is eight wings of courtrooms and offices in Abeokuta. I had led the design team through the brief and construction, with courtyards and orientation for daylight. Seeing the project written about in public was different from walking the site. A civic building belongs to the people who use it, and the reporting was a reminder of that.

Civic work in Abeokuta
The Ogun Judiciary Complex asked for dignity, daylight, and clear public interfaces across eight wings of courtrooms and offices in Abeokuta. Civic buildings stay with you. They have to serve people who did not choose them, for a very long time. A public building is a sequence of arrivals, waiting, and rooms where serious things happen. Daylight and a clear way through were not extras. They were the brief. I still think about the people who pass through those wings without having chosen to be there.

A serviced estate in the papers
The Nation and the Nigerian Tribune both reported the commissioning of the PMB Estate, the first fully serviced estate in Ogun. The scheme is 170 hectares at Kobape, Abeokuta: a site-and-services plan, three prototype houses, and serviced plots. I worked on the drawings and the project from the brief through to those plots being sold. The papers recorded the opening. I still think of the road network, and of the houses we drew first.

A hall for a community
Centenary Hall in Sagamu was designed for gatherings, the everyday ceremonies that hold a place together. Acoustic, circulation, and support spaces mattered as much as the hall itself. Changing rooms, stores, and the way people arrive had to work on the day of a ceremony and on the ordinary days around it. I wanted the gathering to feel held from the moment people arrive to the moment they leave. A hall for a community is never only the room everyone sees. The quiet rooms around it, the ones a photograph misses, are part of the ceremony too.

Healthcare close to home
Totoro Health Center was an upgrade to an existing primary facility: consulting rooms, a full maternity section, wards, a laboratory, and offices for its immediate neighbourhood. Clinical zoning is a form of care. This was one of the first places that taught me a clinic has to serve the people who live beside it, in the order they actually arrive. Consulting, maternity, wards, and the laboratory had to read as one building. The neighbourhood around it was the real client. A visit should feel clear from the front door to the last room.
